TG Lurgan Ditch the dictionary and put on your headphones..
The purpose of TG Lurgan is to help & support learners in acquiring Gaeilge. It is easier to learn song lyrics than almost anything else. Especially if you like the song and you can easily listen to it over and over. This is great for acquiring new word groups and phrases while improving pronunciation. We are delighted that our YouTube channel is a world-leading minority language platform.
Each one of the 200+ tracks on TG Lurgan have been produced in a voluntary capacity and were 100% funded from parent’s fees. Coláiste (TG) Lurgan does not receive any state funding whatsoever. The YouTube channel is not monetised in any way.

Internalizing lyrics of Lurgan songs
Listening to Irish language popular songs isn’t just more fun than drilling grammar concepts it is also away more effective. But there is a difference between simply hearing Irish language songs and actually learning from them. There is considerable evidence that shows how music can help second language learners.
Lurgan’s lyrics rely heavily on everyday language & colloquial speech. They contain a lot of useful vocabulary, phrases, and expressions. The language used is casual and readily usable. It also familiarizes pronunciation and understanding of the language’s rhythm, tone, and beat. Many of the words and sound patterns within a song are repetitive which makes it easier for them to stick in your mind. All of this will help you easily memorize vocabulary and phrases. In fact, after a relatively short time using LurganLingo you will find it almost impossible to forget them.
LurganLingo is supported by three platforms:
- Spotify: The objective is to be able to sing along with the playlist on Spotify
- YouTube: Has lyric videos of the 8 songs
- Lurgan.biz: Audio-based expansion & explanation of language content used in lyrics.
Our first ever LurganLingo album has 8 songs and they can be accessed right here.
