Related subject matter /Topics / Themes are organised into units (pages)
These pages form chapters (caibidil) which are then grouped as books (leabhar).
Individual pages have their own audio material / images / games / interactive question – answer tasks.
All tasks on these pages can be set as “Obair Bhaile” but not all scores for these tasks are included in overall chapter scores.
The content in AbairLeat! is organised as follows:
Pronunciation / sounds of basic everyday chit chat. All sections of Abair Leat! has associated audio for recording.
• The Éist&Freagair (Listen & Answer) section deals with the most commonly posed questions and their associated answers in everyday dialogue.
• The Briathra (Verb) section comprehensively deals with using regular / irregular verbs as well as the two forms of the verb “to be”
• In the Chit Chat section you’ll find 160 of the most commonly used phrases/sayings presented in 10 sets of 16 phrases/sayings. Each set has its own revision exercises.
• Leathnú Foclóra (Vocabulary section) has themed groups of words along with a series of tasks based on learning the words.
• Forainmneacha Réamhfhoclacha ( Prepositional pronouns) They are not as intimidating as their title suggests but are really important to get right.
• Na Diabhailíní Beaga (The little rascals) is an experiment where playful situations are used to introduce informal dialogue. While the characters are 13-14 years of age it is hoped that the dialogue and associated tasks are relevant to learners of all age groups.
• Saibhriú Teanga (Language Enrichment) learners can acquire a lot of useful words and grammatical structures from this section. Included here are Seanfhocla (Irish Proverbs) Tomhais (riddles) Tréanna (triads) Rannta (rhymes) Beannachtaí (blessings) Mallachtaí (curses) Logainmneacha (place names)
• Bí ag caint – this section was designed to help students prepare for an interview / oral examination. It includes preparation material for the “interview” undertaken by first time students going to Coláiste Luragn along with preparation materials for the leaving cert oral examination.
• Frásaí – Leaganacha Cainte ( Phrases / sayings / expressions) This section focuses on learning phrases / sayings / expressions and knowing how and when to use them in general conversation.
• Ainmfhocail / Aidiachtaí ( Nouns and adjectives) Nouns and adjectives need to be thoroughly explained. We still have a lot of work to do in developing this section.
